I found KJ Naturals a few years ago during my ongoing OBSESSION for natural hair care products. I am always on the hunt for products that keep my hair healthy, easy to style, and my pockets happy. And when my daughter arrived with a different hair texture than mine, my obsession reached new heights. I read every blog, watched hours of Youtube videos, and turned my bathroom in a mini hair care outlet.
I have a ton of products that I’ve bought once or twice. But KJ Naturals is one of the few that I have purchased repeatedly. Why? Not only does she have a great product but is nailing her marketing strategy. I highlight three ways below. Check them out and think about how you can tweak these ideas and use them in your own business. Because she definitely has me coming back again and again to her store!
1. She has a mailing list. And she isn’t afraid to use it
I’ve bought products several times on Etsy. But few sellers share sales, new products, and tips regularly. As a result, it’s easy to forget them when I am ready to buy again.
K.J. Naturals shares relevant updates in a timely fashion. She keeps her community updated on new products – before she releases them. And she shares tips and advice while juggling marketing and the production. #highfive
Her strategy works. She makes it easy to remember her store. And buy again.
Because when you are a freelancer – your list is your goldmine. Your social media numbers are nice. But your list – former buyers, interested prospects – is how you can grow your business.

2. She thinks customers for life. Not a one time shopper.
One of the things I enjoy about K.J. Naturals are her periodic sales for her email subscribers. She will sharply discount one product – sometimes 40-50%. Which is smart for Etsy sellers that have several items in their store. Because once I’m online to buy, it’s easy to toss in a few other products at full price and avoid future shipping charges.
It’s a total win-win. She has increased my lifetime value from a one time customer of $20 to $200+.
3. She takes her customer service experience serious
She hand writes a special note on each of her products and includes extra touches with her wrapping to let me know she cares. Yes, it makes a difference. Who doesn’t like opening up gifts and finding surprises? lol.
Also I have emailed her directly and she responded within 24 hours and threw in something extra on my next order. Solid customer service experience!
Don’t get overwhelmed by all of these great ideas! If you currently don’t have a store on Etsy but have been dreaming about it – get started and create the account. If you have a store and want to improve your sales and revenue – consider the online toolkit that Etsy provides its sellers to get started along with best practices like K.J. Naturals.
And if you are still stuck after you do all of that – no worries! Tweet me your question at @mallaharidat. I’ll help you get unstuck and figure out your first steps. Good luck!
